Welcome to Guitar Heat Lessons- I hope you have a good time RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Speed is something which comes to a guitarist with constant practice! Determination and consistency are two things that will get you to your goal.Remeber no one reaches the speed of Michael Angelo in a day or so. One of the best ways to increase your speed is use of a Metronome. Now there are alternatives to the metronome, but this is the best way. As I have said before consistency and determination is what you need. If you really want to develup your speed, then you have to have a practise schedule. It can be of 30 mins or an hour, these 60 mins will be extremely boring but will help you in the future run. Repeat chromatics, play them in different patterns and so on. I will give you a few excercises that will really help you practise well. Ill put a D for a downstroke and a U for upstroke.
Remeber to always use alternate picking(dont go for the economy/wrong picking at initial stages). Here is the first excersice that woll help you devolup your alternate picking. After reaching the 12th fret come back. Change the pattern go Up Down Up Down after this.
D U D U

A capo is a mechanical device that can be fixed/attached to the neck of a guitar. It is very much like when u play barre chords. It is derived from the Italian “capo tasto” or “capodastro” which literally means “head of fingerboard”. Though you dont need any music theory to understand about capo, some part of it will still be required to understand the advanced features of a capo.
There are a lot of advantages of a capo. For example, you will notice that there are many songs out there that are played either too high or too low, a capo can help you solve this problem. Another major benifit tha a capo can provide you is, variety over the same set of notes. What i mean is that you will be playing the same chords the same licks and you will get a fresh new sound with the help of capo. Many people will not agree with me on these points, but i still say its worth giving a shot.
How a capo works?
There are many makes of capo, and there function vary with their make. Ill take an example over here so that it can be better explained. “Shubb capo” which consists of a curved metal bar with one “hinged” arm and one pivot arm in a curved “E” shape. The capo is placed just behind the fret. The main bar is fitted with a rubber sleeve which covers the strings, and the hinged arm fits behind the neck. The pivot arm has an adjustable screw which pivots on the hinged arm locking the capo in place. The adjustable tension screw can therefore be adjusted to fix the capo at different positions on the neck without using excessive force which could cause damage.

Devoluping ear is a difficult and time consuminng process. But it is also one of the most important things needed to become a good musician. If you have a good ear you will be able to identify chords, you will be able to identify notes, you can tell which key a perticular song might lie in.
Some Ear Training Exercises:
As i said before devoluping your ear can take a lot of time, it can take years. The main thing that a musician should understand is “Perfect Pitch” ie the ability to recognise the note just by listening to it. We must start from the most basic thing.
do re me fa sol la si do
C D E F G A B C

The most important part of a guitar is its tuning. Here i am only gonna teach you about standard tuning. It is very important for a person to learn how to tune his guitar. For example say you are at your friends party, and someone hands you a guitar and asks you to play, if you can not tune it you can not play it even though you might be a great guitarist. There are two tools you can use when tuning your guitar. One is an electronic tuner, the other is your ear.Remember you wont have your electronic tuner all the time. Also tunning by ear helps devolup your ear, you start to understand different pitches.
Here is the pattern you must follow to get your guitar in standard tuning(E A D G B E) starting from 6th string(thick one).
6th string, 5th fret and 5th string open
5th string, 5th fret and 4th string open
4th string, 5th fret and 3rd string open
3rd string, 4th fret and 2nd string open
2nd string, 5th fret and 1st string open

One of the most common question that people ask is,how should i build speed. Now this is a question with multiple answers,as there is no one way to build speed. One should also realize that building speed may take up years of hard practise.Ill tell you a few ways that can help you start:
1)Using a Metronome-One of the best ways to build speed, play slow and then go on to faster speeds. Start by playing whole notes, then crochets, semi crochets and so on, per beat. Also dont stop playin until you have mastered that perticular speed. Also start playing scales using a metronome and see the difference.
2)Play Scales-play the same scales over and over again. One must not stop in between in this process and should aim at playing a perticular thing for atleast 5 mins without stopping,be it whatever speed.

When you see or hear the word “legato”, it usually means to play a given passage smoothly or flowingly. When you pick a note, you hear a certain articulation. The best way to approach a legato passage is with the use of hammer-ons and pull-offs. Start with a couple of fluttering exercises (trills) like these:
1). Flutter for one full minute, nonstop between your first and second fingers. Keep it strong, clean and even. Then do it between your first and third, then the first and fourth, fingers.
2). Do the same thing except this time, flutter between your second and third fingers, then your second and fourth, then try between the third and fourth.
The object is to get each pair of fingers equally strong when trilling. You can see that it will take some time for this to happen cleanly, but when it does, the dexterity and coordination of your left hand will double.
