Welcome to Guitar Heat Lessons- I hope you have a good time RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
In this lesson i will be covering the most basic chords and their theory. To make it clear in the beginning itself, many people will not agree with what i will tell you in this lesson, but as i said this is just for the “Beginners”. A few important open position chords are
C D E F G A etc…

I have only listed those which will be useful to you in initial stages. We classify chords basically and most importantly in 4 ways
Major
Minor
Diminished
Augumented
Major Chords are formed by playing the 1st 3rd 5th notes of a scale. Like for example a Cmaj chord has C, E, G as its notes and the C maj scale is C D E F G A B C, so if you look at the 1st 3rd and 5th note ie C E G, you get the Cmaj chord. Now you can continue this way and find all the chords from all major scales.
Minor chords are formed by playing the 1st b3rd(flat 3rd) 5th notes of a scale. Like for example a Cmin chord has C, bE, G as its notes and the C min scale is C D bE F G bA bB C(natural minor), so if you look at the 1st 3rd and 5th note ie C bE G, you get the Cmin chord. Now you can continue this way and find all the chords from all natural minor scales.
We have Barre chords, these are played by placing the first finger copletely over the whole fret.
G major G minor C major C minor
—–3———–3———–3————-3————
—–3———–3———–5————-4————
—–4———–3———–5————-5————
—–5———–5———–5————-5————
—–5———–5———–3————-3————
—–3———–3—————————————
Placing the whole finger actually gives a more heavy sound. So you get a heavier bass than when u play the chord normally. For example the C chord, try playing it in the open position and the barre chord way, you will make out the difference.
I wont be giving you Diminished and Ugmented chords yet, as you need to master these before them. I will soon post a lesson on them as well. Here is a chart of some major and minor chords along with their notes, to help you out.

In the text, when referring to (for example) E flat, you would notate it Eb, not bE.
Also the I III and V in your diagram are confusing because this terminology is usually more applicable to chord rather than scale degrees. Better to use ^1, ^3 (or ^b3), ^5.
I would also recommended using more of the # keys for the minor, rather than Gbm (never seen this one before in 35 years of music training).
